Jobs Growth Plan Welcomed - Jim Higgins MEP

Speaking in the European Parliament, Jim Higgins MEP has welcomed the first Annual Growth Survey which will come into force in January 2011.

"The Annual Growth Survey will analyse the economic situation of the Union, including potential imbalances and systemic risks. This is essential to Europe's transformation into a smart, sustainable and inclusive society. I welcome the plans for restoring growth for jobs by accelerating the Europe 2020 reform agenda," Mr Higgins said.

In relation to the current financial crisis, the Ireland North West MEP stressed that it's vital for Europe to deal with the Economic Crisis in an appropriate manner. "It is clear that to date there has been some shortcomings, and the effects of this are being felt by many citizens across the EU, not least in my home country of Ireland."

Mr Higgins also believes member states need to protect our common currency. "We must ensure that the euro remains a credible currency, and I am confident that the Commission's work programme in 2011 will see meet the challenges of the coming years."
