Jim Higgins Fine Gael MEP for Ireland Northwest has welcomed the European Union's new initiative entitled 'Youth in Action' Partnerships. This new programme will be regulated by regional or local public bodies across the EU with Léargas responsible for regulating the programme in Ireland.

Higgins calls for National Internship Strategy to be developed

Fine Gael MEP Jim Higgins has called on the government to draw up a national strategy to create and regulate internship positions for young workers. Mr Higgins believes that it is vital for the future of our economy that young workers are well trained and experienced.

The European Commission has agreed to re-examine the proposed total ban on whitefish fishing off the Donegal Coastline. The Federation of Irish Fishermen met with Fisheries Commissioner Joe Borg yesterday 3 December.

Fine Gael MEP Jim Higgins is supporting a call by the Road Safety Authority, warning parents of the potential dangers of mini-motorbikes as Christmas presents. Mr Higgins has also expressed his concerns over what are known as "all -terrain vehicles", such as quads and moto-cycles.
